What is Cellulite?
With growing awareness about a healthy body and the pre-occupation of the mind with fitness, cellulite has attracted a lot of attention, lately. Ignored for a long time, this dimpling effect on thighs and other areas finds the spotlight trained on it, now. Cellulite is thought to be a build up of toxic fluid and fat in the skin that causes a peculiar orange pee! type puckering. What is interesting is that cellulite need not attack the fat people only; it is often seen on the slim figures also.
Cellulite is often found in the thighs and buttocks but it can also occur in areas around the neck, under the breasts, around the waist, hips, arms and legs. Cellulite affects women more than men and does not necessarily result from overweight. While hormonal changes are a prime cause, there are several other contributing factors.
Toxins are trapped into a particular area due to poor circulation. When fighting cellulite, it is best to eat a wholesome diet and drink plenty of water. Give up stimulants like coffee, nicotine, and alcohol that are heavily implicated in the formation of cellulite. Wearing tight clothes such as skin-tight jeans leads to poor circulation. Stress can worsen the problem because tense muscles lead to restricted lymph drainage.
How to Know if You Have Cellulite? : Press tissue between your thumb and finger, or between the palms of your two hands-if it is “normal” fat, it will appear smooth, with no ripples, or bumps – if you have any ripples or bumps-which look like “orange peel” – you have cellulite.

Dry brushing with a loofah can be a simple everyday routine done during bath times. Floatation therapy can be done in a bathtub filled with warm water and mineral salts. The salts help in detoxifying your body and improve circulation. In fact, bath salt containing a part of Epsom salt is an ideal way to relax and detoxify after a hard tiring day outdoors.
There are a number of salon treatments that speed up the treatment of cellulite. Aromatherapists use special blends of essential oils to tackle the area, usually to great affect. Health spas and farms offer a range of solutions from mineral salt baths to hydrotherapy, where jets of sea water is aimed at the flabby area, this stimulates circulation along with the detoxifying process.
Electrically powered massage heads are used to improve circulation along with gels and creams containing active ingredients.
Lymphatic drainage treatments are becoming increasingly popular. The lymph drainage circulation is the body’s waste disposal system and it can often become sluggish due to lack of exercise, or other factors. One method is to use inflatable rubber stockings; that are zipped on to the leg. As the stocking inflates, the pressure pushes the lymph around the body. This is good for total body health.
