Lie straight on your back, over a carpet, with feet closely together. Keep the arms stretched, close to the body, palms resting on the ground. Then fold the legs over the abdomen, also the lower part of the trunk.
Now pressing the ground with your palms, stretch the legs upwards along with the trunk and bring them to a position of making an angle of 90° with your neck. Hold the raised part of the trunk and legs with both the hands.
Your chin should be pressed deep into or against the chest Stay in this position, inhaling and exhaling your breath slowly and well-controlled. Keep this pose for a few minutes and then return slowly to the original position with palms laid on the ground.
It is a ‘sarvanga’ exercise, that is, an exercise of all the limbs of the body. It acts against the gravity and gives an opportunity to shake up the blood system by reversing the flow of blood from the feet downwards.
It gives strength to all the body organs, including the nerves. It removes the disorder of the throat (thyroid), tonsils, lungs and ear. It purifies blood and helps to maintain the proper functioning of the abdominal vicera. It also reduces fat and tones up the muscles of the heart.
