As already highlighted that it is the brain, or mind that sees, whereas eyes are only the instrument of vision, we shall now suggest some exercises for the improvement or correction of vision by the relaxation of mind.
It may be of interest to mention that Harry Benjamin, who wrote several books on Natural treatment, was born with defective vision. He had to use spectacles from the very early age of five and later, when grown up, he had to quit his service because of extremely week vision.
When he became blind, he went back to his village. However he came across Dr. Bates’ book, ‘the Perfect Sight without Glasses’ which his brother used to read out for him. He followed a regimen of diet strictly and practised the eye-exercises as advised in the book.
In this way his vision was completely restored and he was totally cured of all diseases of the eye, he had inherited by birth.
A diet containing vitamin A improves the vision. Absence of vitamin A can even cause blindness. Leafy green vegetables contain a substance, called Carotene, which, on consumption of vegetable diet, gets converted into vitamin A.
Thus, leafy vegetables, as also mango, papaya, orange, carrot, pumpkin and tomato are rich in vitamin A, good for the eyes.
