Enema is necessary to be had when going on fast and when suffering with such ailments as born of constipation. In a complete fast or a fast on all-fruit diet, since no amount of solid food is eaten, the bowels do not get sufficient pressure to be cleared.
To help the abdomen, in causing due inducement of motion and to help the rectum to release the stools, enema is a convenient instrument.
In performing enema, the person should lie down on a wooden plank or cot, so that the buttock portion is a bit raised up. Fill the enema-can with warm water in case of a warm-water enema, the water to be of body temperature.
Enema with cold water in some cases of illness or for cleanliness of the colon is also taken. A cold-water enema is called TONIC ENEMA, as it tones up the muscles of the large intestine leading to removal of constipation.
In the water for enema, lemon juice may be added. The leaves of Neem tree are boiled in water and when the water is cooled down to body temperature, it is also used for enema water.
Before the use of enema, open the nozzle of the enema tube slightly and pass out some water to test that the tube is clear. Also grease the nozzle before use.
Lying flat, with buttocks raised and legs widened, insert the enema nozzle into the rectum and let the whole water of the enema-can go into the body (colon). After the can-water is exhausted, try to control water in the abdomen as long as possible, turning left and then right.
Then get up and defecate. In case bowels are not fully cleaned, you can have another course of enema.
