If we ask anybody why bath is taken, the reply will be to cool the body and clean it. But the fact is in one way quite the other one. Animals do not bathe to clean themselves. They rather would like to roll in dust.
The truth is that the cleanliness of the ‘body’s skin is simply a supplementary factor. The main purpose of taking a bath is to warm up our body by toning up body’s inner system by its contact with cold water, causing better circulation of blood.
Have you not observed through experience with yourself that, if on a day, you miss your daily bath, say in winter, you will feel cold all the more on that day. Though the bath we take is apparently an external one, yet, in fact, a bath is an internal bath of the body.
The whole body is washed up internally with the inspired circulation of blood, as the effect of cold water on it externally. That the body’s skin is also cleaned, is a supplementary benefit of the bath.
