An example is better than precept, it is often said. Thus, before proceeding further on the subject, it is deemed necessary to take the reader into confidence about the efficacy of the Nature-cure treatment, by bringing to his notice some instances of serious and acute illness, where the case of the patient had been declared hopeless by the doctors, but he was saved by Nature-cure treatment.
Before describing some other cases, let me begin with a case of my own. It was in 1953, when due to excessive load of work, I developed many ailments right from constipation to indigestion, chronic acidity, piles and urination troubles, all leading to extreme nervousness.
At that time, some literature on Nature-cure was received from the government in the Vidyapeeth Pustakalaya, of which I was the General Secretary.
On going through it, the literature inspired me so much that I took courage to take up my treatment myself on the lines of Nature-cure. After a complete fast for three days, on water and lemon, I began a full course of 40 days on fruit and milk diet, making use of enema and hip-baths twice daily, accompanied by one or two yogic exercises. The treatment proved successful and brought me back to normal health.
A notable point was that, except for the first week, I did not leave the work of my office and attended it regularly practicing Nature-cure both in the mornings and evenings. Later, for more experience I visited some Nature-cure homes also.
An intensive study of the system equipped me adequately with this science of natural healing. Many people began coming to me for advice and assistance too, which I would gladly give sparing time from my other social and professional activities.
I shall now mention some serious cases, in which the doctors had expressed no hope of the patients’ survival. One Shri Ram Chandra Choudhary (35), a popular tabla artiste of the Jharia Coalfield, came to me one day for his last ‘Namaskar’, as he said.
On my asking, he told me that he had only few days to live, because the hospital doctors are doubtful about the success of the operation of my peptic ulcer and the popular Homoeopath of Mihijam had even declared that he had given me the last doze of medicine. His description made me somewhat nervous, but to prepare him for Nature-cure treatment, I gave him some books on Nature-cure to read.
The next day he came to me and told me that he had gone through some of the literature and had got a ray of hope to live. By his good luck, a Naturo-path of Patna, Dr. Ram Lakhan Singh, came to see me for some personal work of his.
I mentioned to him the case of Shri Choudhary’s illness. We both walked to his house and made him start a 40-day complete fast on water treatment.
After putting him on a 3-day complete fast on water and lemon, he made him follow a 40-day ‘Dugdha Kalpa’, that is, a fast purely on milk, Dr. Singh returned to Patna leaving the patient Shri Choudhary to my care and supervision.
Milk in small quantities with short intervals was served to Shri Choudhary, increasing the quantity of milk from spoonfuls to cup and then glassfuls, ultimately about seven seers of milk and then back to normal intake of milk, gradually followed by normal diet.
Coincidentally, Shri Choudhary was keeping a cow in his house and that made the task of procuring milk easier. All through the course, he was given hip-baths and enema twice daily.
In Nature-cure, when the disease is on the verge of leaving the body, the patients show symptoms, like vomiting, temperature, etc., which are but the sign of poisons of the body being extracted. The same thing happened to our patient, who besides these symptoms, began getting discharge of blood through the rectum. His son came running to me to inform this.
All members of the house requested me to send for Dr. Singh through somebody. Now, Dr. Singh had told me all this beforehand and had advised me not to get nervous, as such a stage passes off shortly and the patient should be encouraged to continue the treatment and not leave it for any other form of treatment.
The likewise happened, and the patient felt relieved of these symptoms the very next day. Such events of crisis do come in long Nature-cure treatments, and the Naturo-paths never let the situation go out of their hand and deal with it suitably.
