Diet Cure: Treatment Chart for Diabetes

A- DIET

1. Upon arising: Bitter gourd (karela), juice and a glass of lukewarm water with half a freshly-squeezed lime.
2. Breakfast: Any fresh fruit with the exception of bananas, a small quantity of whole meal bread with butter and fresh milk.
3. Lunch: A bowl of freshly-prepared steamed vegetables, one or two whole wheat chappatis, butter and a glass of buttermilk.


4. Mid-afternoon: A glass of fresh fruit or vegetable juice.
5. Dinner: A large bowl of raw vegetable salad, with lime juice dressing, sprouted mung beans and cottage cheese.
6. Bedtime snack: A glass of fresh milk or fresh fruit.

NOTE:

1. Fresh fruits contain sugar fructose, which does not need insulin for its metabolism and is well tolerated by diabetics.
2. Raw foods should be taken liberally as they stimulate and increase insulin production.

AVOID: Spices, condiments, pickles, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, tea and coffee, flesh foods, overboiled milk, as well as white flour and products made from them, refined, processed, stale and tinned foods. Fats and oils should be taken sparingly.

Especially Beneficial: Cucumbers, ring beans, onion and garlic.

B – OTHER MEASURES

1. Brisk walks, back lifting exercise and yoga asanas.
2. Body massage once a week.
3. Hot fomentation to lower back.
