There are, as would be expected, a limitless number of possible combinations of fragrant blends. Because of space restrictions, many of the possible therapeutic formulas have been omitted.
Those that have been included, however, comprise a solid basis for a sound therapeutic practice in aromatherapy. The blends that are included here are of two basic types. Some have been taken from the scent-healing practices of others.
Of these, only the ones that are based in sound aromatherapy principles have been listed. The main criteria for those presented here is that the ingredients can be analyzed in accordance with accepted foundational scent associations, and the basis easily understood for each ingredient’s inclusion in the formula.
The second type of formula included is that of personal design. These blends have been tried in actual practice and have proven themselves to be well worth including in an arsenal of therapeutic remedies.
Again, it should be emphasized that the formulae included in these pages are written in a loose, non-stringent manner. The individual creativity and expertise of the practitioner is encouraged. The continued awareness of the need to address each client and each situation in the light of its own merit is also encouraged.
The non-specific presentation of ingredient amounts should help to maximize the benefit of these all-important considerations. Yet the quality of the guidelines should serve well in the hands of the thinking practitioner.
For easier reference, the therapeutic blends have been divided into five different sections. Each section addresses the type of condition to be treated, as dictated by the bodily functions that it deals with.
This should make finding specific blends far easier as it becomes necessary to refer back to them. Recommended methods of application have also been included for each fragrant blend.
These are by no means hard and fast rules, but merely suggestions. As always, creativity is encouraged. Still, it may be helpful to know what type of transmittal systems have already proven effective in actual practice for specific blends.
