Cyclamen oil derives from the flowers of the same name. These red, white, or pink blossoms, when pressed into an essential oil, do not enjoy the popularity of many other essentials but the end product has a definite place on the shelf of the experienced magickal aromatherapist. Of the family primrose, cyclamen was once widely used as a love scent but is now more appreciated for its therapeutic virtues. It still survives in some of the old traditional magical formulas, however as an oil of love.

Mental/Emotional Effects: Much as this scent has an age-old reputation as a blood purifier, it tends to have a clearing effect on the mental and emotional facilities as well. It was long employed as a love oil, yet it works in a way that is unlike many of the other traditional love oils. Rather than awaken feelings of passion or arouse the soft sensitivities of appreciation of beauty, it tends to clear the mind and heart of any obstacles that may stand in the way of Cupid’s endeavors. It may well stir the hot blood of passion but it does so by cleansing and not by arousal.
Healing Properties: Used for treatment of nervous disorders as well as to expel excess fluid from the system. May be used to dry congestion or relieve bloating. It is a blood purifier and also has value for the relief of insomnia, migraine headaches, coughs, and bronchitis.
Magical Properties: Traditionally used to clear the way for love and passion, cyclamen also has another lesser-known magickal application. It is said that a single drop of cyclamen will draw the truth from anyone living in falsehood, betraying the deceptions of any liar.
