While the bulk of experimentation with magnets has been in Japan and in the West, there are many Indians too who are using magnets with good results. Dr Gala, Dr Neville Bengali, Dr Bhattacharya, Dr Bansal and a few others have done a lot of work in this area. A new entrant is the young Karrthik Ramjee in Chennai. Along with his mother, the Reiki grandmaster Shobha Ramjee, they run a popular Vaastu Shastra and Feng Shui outlet.
“I was a patient myself,” explains Karrthik. “I had bronchial cough and wheezing. I checked out a few books on magnets and started treating myself. I did find a little relief. But it was my mother, who also believes in energy levels, who suggested that I learn all about it as I could then be of some use to mankind.”
At around the same time, coincidentally, Karrthik met up with a friend who manufactured acupressure and magnetic items. “His father, Dr Gangadar Choudary, also works with alternative medical systems,” adds Karrthik. “He is my guru. I have learnt all that I know from him.”
A lot of people in Chennai and neighbouring states visit Karrthik for advice and consultation. He treats every person who needs help. “This is service,” he says. “I do not focus on big names. I get all sorts of people, from sweepers to the society’s elite. This is not a money-making venture. I am also learning a lot while helping others. The curative powers of magnets are really quite remarkable.”
According to Karrthik, magneto-therapy can solve nearly all medical problems irrespective of the age of the person or the severity of the illness.
“It depends on the patient,” he says. “If the patient is bedridden, we provide the magnets and the instruction and the attendant can carry on the treatment from home. If the patient is mobile, we encourage him or her to make a personal visit. We examine the patient and recommend appropriate magnets for the treatment.”
Karrthik points out that there is preventive treatment in magneto-therapy but unfortunately “many people don’t use magnets for prevention”. He insists that with proper exercise and a little time spent with magnets everyday, all the blood centres will be activated. “This is the preventive we recommend.”
About the time taken for treatment and a cure, Karrthik points out, ‘Time is an illusion. The treatment depends on how severe the case is and for how many months or years this person is suffering. Normally, a person can return to good health in about a month or two depending on how well s/he receives the power. If the person receives the power well s/he need not come everyday. Thrice a week is good enough. Of course, we suggest they come everyday because that is the best.”
The best part is that the magnet can now be worn as jewellery. “In fact, we cure spinal problems with a magnet mala, blood pressure with a bracelet, hearing problems with earrings and so on,” says Karrthik. “The new pieces of magnetic jewellery look good too.”
According to Karrthik, magnets work on the simple logic of nature. “It is based on the positive and negative fields which our body has. Known as Nadis, these nadi points are activated with magnets and crystals and this helps the blood flow where trouble is reported. For example, for a person suffering from rheumatic arthritis we recommend placing a pyramid on the leg that is paining and also on the other leg so that the contact is made when the blood flow is regulated.”
In India, Karrthik feels that magneto-therapy hasn’t come of age. “It is very popular abroad. Treatment with magnets can be a slow process and requires a lot of patience. There are a few books but not enough. There are a few practitioners but they are not really recognised.
There is no networking or exchange of ideas and all treatments and cures are isolated. There is no sharing of methodology as yet. It is all word of mouth. There is no advertising. People know us, trust us, get better and tell others about it. That’s the way it runs now.”
