Of all the organs of human body, eye is the most sensitive, tender organ which enables us to see this world. But, sadly, such an important organ is neither Cared for looked after. We rush to the doctor when the problem has assumed alarming and Complicated Condition. Factors that Cause various eye disorders may be summed up as follows:
(i) Working under glaring, blindening and artificial lights
(ii) Exposure to direct sunrays, snow, glare,
(iii) Operating hazardous machinery (like iron furances, chemical plants, acids, toxic, plastic/pvc, gaseous units, thermal plantsetc.)
(iv) Remaining under dazzling, glaring and strong lights.
(v) Working/living where there is much smoke.
(vi) Air Pollution, Factory Pollution
(vii) Tired eyes due to close and constant application of vision and not giving sufficient rest to the eyes
(viii) Wrong reading/studying/working posture
(ix) Indiscriminate and wrong use of harmful Oral medicines, eye drops/creams/ointments, without knowing their side-effects, reaction and sensitivity factors
(x) Reading/studying while lying in sofa/bed.
(xi) Not getting eye-sight tested periodically and not using spects when actually required and needed.
(xii) Using glasses of wrong numbers of even of someone else.
(xiii) Using sun-goggles of inferior quality
(xiv) Use of lenses and prolonged use of eye-drops
Eye-Preparations and cautions in Use
These are processed from one or more than one ingredients like Chloramphenicol, Framycetin, Gentamycin, Neomycin, Tobramycin, Sulphas, Tetracycline, Hydrochloride, Ciprofloxin, steroids and preservatives like Bcnzalkonium, chloride, Benzyl alcohol, boric acid, Centramidc, Chlorbutol etc. Benzalklonium, Chloride must not he used by persons wearing soft contact lenses. Also avoid prolonged use ofphenyl-Mer curie acetate and phenyl mercuric Nitrate. I/ypersesitivily may occurdue to use of preservatives, hence check the preservative if medicine is changed for this very reason
Contact lense users should not use any eye preparations unless clearly advised medically. The lenses should be removed before instillation and not worn during the period of treatment.
Follow the following directions, Viz
(1) Do not use any eye preparation when its period of use has expired
(2) Discontinue use if irrition /redness persist or even aggravate, and Consult a doctor for proper advice.
(3) Use eye ointment at night only.
(4) Ifthereisany reaction, immediately contact a doctor
(5) Do not use sulphacetamide for a longer period as it is not useful
(6) Do not use any Cortiosteroid preparation without medical advice.
(7) In acute eye infections insert eye drops after every 2 hours, if necessary, but generally after 6-8 hours.
(8) Do not rub eyes, rather keep them neat and clean.
(9) Conditions of Cataract, Fungal infections Glaucoma, eye injuries, bleeding, pus formation, etc should never be self-treated, rather a doctor consulted for proper advice and treatment
(10) Do not use any eye-preparation in the case of new born babies, infants and children.
(11) Do not use two different eye preparations, except when medically advised
(12) Do not even use domestic remedies
(13) Protect your eyes from glare, direct sun rays/ light, dust, smoke, air pollution, industrial chemicals, acids, intoxicants, gases etc.
