In PREPARATION for UNCOMPLICATED LABOUR. Says Dr. Margaret Tyler (Drug Pics. 216) : The mother was saved trouble; forceps delivery hours of suffering and prolonged labour with its increased danger to the child. She had been taking Caul, daily for a month before. HENCE : give a dose of Caul. 30 or 200 daily during the last three or four weeks of pregnancy… It is a powerful agent for the prevention of premature labour and of miscarriage – when the pains are spasmodic, and fly from one place to another.
Caulop. is also useful in RHEUMATISM of small joints of hands and flying pains in the limbs.
Lochia : protracted; great atony; passive oozing for days from relaxed vessels. (Sec).
CAUSTICUM
Causation : .Ailments from: Long lasting grief and sorrow; from loss of sleep, night watching (Coca, Ign.) from sudden emotions, fear, fright (Gels), joy (Coff); from anger.
CHILD : Slow learning to walk (Calc.p). Unsteady walking and easy falling of little children. Affects the right side most prominently. Convulsions with eruption of teeth (Stann). Stool tough and shining, like grease, in CHILDREN WITH NOCTURNAL ENURESIS.
Stool passes better when person is STANDING (Alum). URINE involuntary when coughing, sneezing, blowing nose.
PARALYSIS OF SINGLE parts (face, lips, tongue, eyelids, throat, extremities, bladder, rectum). Paralysis gradually appearing. Right sided complaints (but Sciatica left-sided, with numbness). Rawness and soreness all over (throat, stomach, respiratory tract, rectum, urethra, vagina). Voice hoarse, of singers,, worse talking and in the morning.
WORSE : Sensitive to both cold and heat. Worse from exposure to dry cold winds. BETTER : Damp, wet weather. Warmth of bed (Rheumatic pains worse when out of bed). NEVER WELL since burns, scalds and exposure to cold.
CHILD : Fear to go to bed alone at night. Slow learning to walk (Calc. ph.). Slow learning to talk as well. Child emaciated at the feet with enlarged abdomen.
Peculiar : Facial paralysis, right sided from exposure to cold air. Urine retained after labour or surgical operation.
MIND : Sympathy for the suffering of others; weeps from sympathy. Weeping at trifles Anxiety of conscience as if guilty of a crime.
CHAMOMELLA
MIND : Rude, cross, uncivil behaviour. SNAPPISH Pains are intolerable (very sensitive to pain). Sends the doctor out of the room. Child desires to be carried, which relieves him. Likes to be rocked. Aversion to be spoken to or being touched.
CHILD : Obstinate, screaming. Convulsions during dentition from anger. Convulsions from nursing after a fit of ANGER in the MOTHER. Striking of the mother. Child puts fingers in the mouth. STOOLS hot, acrid, grass-green, slimy, hacked or LIENTERIC; smelling of bad eggs. Twitching and convulsions during dentition. Infant’s breasts tender.
FEMALE : Menses frequent, copious, dark, membranous, offensive. Menses extremely painful. TOOTHACHE during menses or pregnancy. Rigidity of Os Uteri during labour, with intolerable pains. Pain in uterus when nursing the child.
Modalities : Worse anger; being looked at. Worse 9 p.m. to midnight. (Bry. 9 p.m.) BETTER : Being carried and petted. Warm wet weather. RHEUMATIC pains compel him to get up and walk about. Numbness with the pains.
One cheek red and hot, the other pale and cold. Convulsions of child after punishment. Milk of nursing mother suppressed from anger. Child wants different things, but when offered, petulantly throws them off.
