Alumina – Even a soft stool is passed with difficulty. Stool sheep-dung like. Has to strain at stool. Constipation of sucklings and old people. Can only pass stool when standing (Caust).
Bryonia – Stool large, dry very hard as if burnt. Lumps of tough mucus after stools.
Causticum – Constipation with frequent ineffectual urging. Stool hard, tough covered with mucus. Partial paralysis of rectum. Stool passes easily when standing (Alum.).
Conium – Constipation on alternate days. Ineffectual urging. Tremulous weakness and palpitation after every stool.
Lycopodium – Constipation of children. Ineffectual urging from contraction of sphincter. Feeling as if much remained unpassed. Stools dry, knotty like sheep-dung.
Merc. sol. – Stool painful, scanty, bloody, greenish mucus with tenesmus and “never-get-done” feeling. Rectal tenesmus with tenesmus of bladder.
Natnun mur. – Constipation on alternate days from inactivity of rectum. Stool dry, hard, crumbling, tearing the anus. Nat. mur is very thirsty, desires salty food.
Magnesia mur. – Constipation of infants during dentition. Passing only small quantity. Stools knotty, crumbling at the verge of anus.
Nux vomica – Fruitless (ineffectual) urging to stool. Feels stool remained unexpelled. Relieved after stool.
Opium – Obstinate constipation; Stool black, hard, sheep-dung like. Stool involuntary after fright. Intestinal spasms; child cries day and night.
Silicea – Stool comes out with difficulty but when partly expelled recedes; retained for fear of pain.
Sulphur – Habitual constipation. Odour of stools follows him as if he has soiled himself. Redness around the anus with itching.
