Therapeutic thinking is another aspect of yoga therapy. The effect of emotions and urges on human action is stronger than that of theoretical knowledge. The effect of emotion can be subjugated by self-discipline and self-mastery. Since the obstruction to self-mastery lies deeper than conscious mind, in order to attain it one must tap the power that lies deeper in the subconscious. Fortunately, to make the effort to perform this difficult task is inherent in all people. Therapeutic thinking is a process of catharsis, which purges the psychological distortions.
It is psychotherapy to cure physical, mental and emotional sickness of the individuals. It is a proper and powerful therapy to annihilate the root cause of various disorders. Once the root cause of physical diseases, mental imbalances and emotional distortions are removed, there will emerge a state of unprecedented calmness in an individual.
Application of therapeutic thinking, autosuggestion and faith healing is as ancient as mankind itself. Franz Masmer provided the link between the ancient healing techniques with modern faith healing. Ample evidence is available to prove that suggestions given to self under deep relaxation can produce striking and significant alterations in the subject’s body and mental behaviour. Actually the healing power lies wholy within the person’s own organisation. In the system of Preksha meditation practice of concentration of thought
(Anupreksha) is being performed to acquire the desirable virtues and eradication of psychological distortions by therapeutic thinking and autosuggestion. Such practice enables a practitioner to relax the mind and release suppressed emotions thereby attaining both physical and mental health.
Pathway of Preksha therapy
The mechanism of Preksha therapy is based on fundamental principle of the correction of imbalances and perversions occurring at either levels of multilayered human existence. It aims at uninterrupted self awareness. Pure stream of consciousness interacting with micro body (Records of informations) moves forward and energy flows in the form of Adhyavasaya (Primal drives). This energy flow then enters into the astral body and takes the form of electromagnetic radiation (Leshya). Streaming into physical body (Gross body) it affects the endocrine glands and expresses itself in the form of emotions. This further activates the nervous system, thereby generating bioelectrical impulses, and ultimately initiates various vocal and physical activities.
Negative informations coming out of the inside information record room cause imbalance in energy flow and lead to dim, gloomy and dark electromagnetic radiations. They enter into physical body first at endocrine system and change the endocrine orchestra, particularly boosting lower endocrine glands, viz. adrenals and gonads. This manifests in the form of negative emotions, which compels the man for a variety of actions at physical and mental levels. The ultimate result is mental conflict and stress. The unresolved psychological state leads to maladaptation and maladjustment, yielding a variety of psychosomatic diseases and disorders.
The pathway of corrective mechanism of Preksha therapy for occurrence of any imbalance/disorder requires multifaceted efforts at all levels described above to get optimum benefit of this therapy system. At the level of gross physical body the process of asana, mudra and bandh, and kayotsarga is to be applied to correct the imbalances in the functional systems. To remove the perversions of voice (vaani) the process of sound, japa (recitation) and silence is to be applied.
Likewise, to correct the mental imbalances the application of the process of perception of breathing and pranayama is prescribed. To bring the desired changes in the pool of negative emotions, the process of perception of body and perception of psychic centres is to be applied. Similarly, to purify the leshya system, the process of perception of psychic colours is to be applied. To keep the adhyavasaya (primal drives) free from perversion, the process of perception of thoughts is to be applied. Such a composite effort will not only ensure the removal of all shortcomings/ imbalances, but also bring about an optimal sound healthy state without any external invasive aid.
