Pumpkin Seeds
Pumpkin seeds are known for their “he-man” power. They have been used for their beneficial effect on the prostate since ancient times. This favorite folk remedy of gypsies, Germans, and others has now drawn the attention of modern scientists.
Dr. W. Devrient of Berlin, Germany, reports that he has been curing patients of prostate trouble by making them eat pumpkin seeds regularly. According to him, this is a disease-preventive food, which contains rejuvenating power for men. Men in Europe and America usually make use of these seeds liberally and remain amazingly free of prostate disorders and all its consequences.
The prostate gland manufactures prostatic fluid, which nourishes the male spermatozoa and keeps them alive. A new medication, not a drug but a nutrient, which occurs naturally in certain foods, has been successfully used for non-surgical treatment of the enlarged prostate gland. The treatment consists of a mixture of three amino acids-alanine, glycine and glumatic acid. Doctors Julian Grant and Henry Feinblatt, who discovered this important medication, reported that patients with an enlarged prostate associated with urinary difficulties experienced prompt and dramatic relief after taking the amino mixture.
Pumpkin seeds contain the very same amino acids that are used in the professional medication. Chemical analyses of the healthy prostate gland and of spermatozoa show very high concentrations of zinc, whereas the amount of zinc found in the sick prostate is low. It thus seems likely that this mineral is extremely important to the health of the reproductive system. Pumpkin seeds are probably the richest known natural source of zinc. Magnesium is another important mineral found abundantly in the pumpkin seeds. Several French scientists have achieved remarkable results in the prevention and cure of prostatic disorders by administering magnesium compounds.
Raisins (Black)
Raisins are dried grapes. They are esteemed for their high food value, which arises chiefly from their sugar content. They contain eight times more sugar than grapes. A major portion of this sugar is formed by glucose and fruit sugar, which produce quick heat and energy in the body. Raisins are thus an excellent food in all cases of debility and wasting diseases.
Black raisins are regarded as an aphrodisiac food of immense value. They are used for restoration of sexual vigour in Ayurveda. The method for using them for this purpose is to boil them with milk, after washing them thoroughly in tepid water. This will make them swollen and sweet. Eating of such raisins should be followed by the use of milk. Starting with 30 grams of raisins with 200 ml of milk, three times daily, the quantity of raisins should be gradually increased to 50 grams each time.
Safflower Seeds
Safflower seeds are a sex stimulating food. They are highly beneficial in the treatment of sexual debility. For better results, powder of the dry seeds should be mixed with pistachio nuts and almonds. This mixture should be used with milk once before going to bed. It is a very effective aphrodisiac medicine. It improves sexual vigour and thickens semen. It is believed that wearing garments dyed in the juice of the flower of safflower increases sexual desire. In olden days, the newly-weds used to wear such clothes.
Sesame Seeds
Sesame seeds are one of the most important spices grown in the magnificent Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Throughout Babylonian history the seeds were highly valued and their production drew royal attention. The Babylonians loved the nut-like flavor of sesame seeds and used them in various preparations.
Women mixed the crushed seeds with honey and ate the delicacy to tone up their sex glands. Dr. Formica of Old Bridge, New Jersey, is reported to have successfully treated scores of married women for what he calls “housewife syndrome,” a condition characterised by fatigue, boredom with housework and bedroom “hanky-panky.” Sometimes it is accompanied by nervousness, insomnia, headache and backache.
The treatment prescribed by Dr. Formica is a drug, said to be the potassium and magnesium salts of aspartic acid. Dr. Formica reports that he obtained a positive result in 87 per cent of his patients after four to six weeks of treatment with the prescription drug. He claims that the change was astonishing. The women became cheerful, happy, alert and sexually responsive.
A rich supply of potassium and magnesium salts of aspartic acid can be ensured by making a candy of sesame seed and honey. This delicious confection also contains ample amounts of vitamin E, known as fertility vitamin, along with other valuable nutrients like calcium, phosphorus, and unsaturated fatty acids as well as associated lecithin necessary for good health. Sesame seeds also contain 50 per cent more protein than meat.
Dr. Leathern of Rutgers University explains that the hormone hypophyseal produced by the pituitary gland is basically protein in nature and obviously needs this nutrient in the diet for its development. This hormone is a key factor to healthy activity of sex glands.
Wheat Germ Oil
Wheat germ oil is rich in vitamin E and other valuable substances. Research shows that this fine natural product can help boost a woman’s femininity and a man’s virility. The oil has been reported to induce ovulation in previously barren women and to increase the sperm count in previously sterile men.
Farmers have known, long before science got around to proving it, that vitamin E as contained in wheat germ oil is the fertility factor. They did not call it vitamin E, they just used fresh stone-ground wheat (which contains the wheat germ) and fed it to their magnificent stallions and other animals for breeding purposes Poultry men also kept insisting that fresh wheat fed to chickens resulted in greater egg production. Dr. Shute of Canada, renowned for his work on vitamin E and heart disease, has also used the vitamin extensively for reproductive disorders.
He reports that experiments conducted on laboratory animals, which were given a diet totally lacking in natural foods containing vitamin E, resulted in derangements of sex life. It produced gradual atrophy of certain generative organs, resulting in the inability to manu-facture sperm and eventually in total sterility. However, before the male organs became completely atrophied, admini-stration of natural vitamin E could restore some sperm activity. Dr. Shute’s success in treating male sterility showed that vitamin E therapy used daily for two weeks increased the sperm count in 48 per cent of the patients, helped 67 per cent to produce only live sperms when they previously had a high proportion or all of their sperms dead, and produced all normal forms in 56 per cent of the men who had abnormal sperms before treatment.
Dr. Shute also reported on the effective results in treating barren women with vitamin E. In a good number of cases, conception took place within a few weeks to several months after vitamin E therapy. Dr Shute reports that wheat germ oil in capsules or bulk, once opened, does not retain its potency much longer than eight weeks even when stored in a refrigerator.
Some medical experts believe that wheat germ oil should be taken between meals, when the stomach is reasonably empty. This would ensure that the oil does not get mixed with any rancid fat, which a person may have taken at the mealtime.
